Hi, My Name is Stephen Custer

I’m called the Storyteller for Good because I believe telling authentic stories inspires people to make positive changes in their communities through nonprofit organizations. I take strategy seriously so my nonprofit clients can communicate their message effectively and efficiently. I also make stories fun by injecting a little levity, because we all need a good laugh every day.

BUT MOST OF ALL, I help nonprofits craft beautiful videos and photography that encourage their supporters to get involved and change the world.

I became the Storyteller for Good after founding my company Dry Humor Marketing because my heart is drawn to nonprofits and I’ve spent my career serving in them. I’ve also been told I have a dry sense of humor. I take that to mean that I think I’m smarter than the next guy and also my jokes aren’t funny. Either way, I know that the best messaging sticks because it moves people emotionally and/or brightens someone’s day with some humor. Ideally, it accomplishes both at the same time. I help nonprofits find the right style of humor that gets their message remembered by their supporters.

Humor is no replacement for authenticity, though. I don’t craft messages to be funny for funny…ness sake. My clients are passionate about their services, so I help them tell their story in a way that shows the true impact of their organization. Everyone loves a good story.

However, humor AND authenticity don’t get you very far without serious strategy. I educate my clients on the latest trends and tools in the marketing world to get real results from their volunteers and donors. I follow the data to fashion the message, and then I use new data from each campaign to refine and innovate that message.

I’ve honed my storytelling craft working in digital marketing for businesses like Abbey Carpet Care, in both digital marketing and development for nonprofits like Salem Alliance Church and NOE International, and in digital marketing even at a government agency: our local transit system called Cherriots. My unique experience with nonprofit administration, cross-cultural experience (having lived in Mexico for two years), and fundraising and development work helps me to understand every aspect of a nonprofit and its work.

Are you serious about strategy when it comes to telling your story? Do you know how to tell your story in a way that moves your volunteers and donors? Do you want to have fun with your messaging? Give me a call at 503-991-4637 or email me at stephen@storytellerforgood.com and I’ll help you craft some seriously fun, beautifully authentic stories for your organization.
